BREXIT, recognition of professional qualifications

Withdrawal Agreement of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union – Provisions for the recognition of professional qualifications

The Withdrawal Agreement, entered into force on 1 February 2020, ensures EU citizens and citizens from the United Kingdom (UK), who have obtained or are close to obtain in the host country the recognition of their professional qualification, and whose application was submitted prior to the end of the transition period (and nevertheless no further than 31 December 2020), the validity and efficacy of national decisions concerning recognition and the right to pursue and continue to pursue their professional activities in the host country.

From 1 January 2021 in Italy their status will be regulated under the provisions of DPR 31 August 1999, no. 394 and subsequent amendments, and in particular under art. 49 which regulates the recognition of professional qualifications obtained in NON-EU countries; therefore, applications for the recognition of qualifications which will be received after that date will be subject to the same procedure adopted for citizens from third countries.

For documents obtained in the United Kingdom, the application will follow the procedure adopted for professional qualifications obtained in NON-EU countries.
