Covid-19 weekly monitoring, report 12 -18 July 2021

The national weekly incidence rate has risen, with evidence of a strong increase in cases diagnosed in almost all regions/autonomous provinces.

The spread of SARS-CoV-2 is increasing very significantly in Italy, with almost all regions/autonomous provinces classified as being of moderate epidemic risk.

The current pressure of COVID-19 on hospital services shows substantially stable occupancy rates and admissions in medical wards and ICUs. The transmissibility for hospitalized cases is also above the epidemic threshold.

The circulation of the Delta variant is increasing in Italy and is now prevalent. This variant is causing an increase in cases in other European countries with high vaccination coverage; therefore, we should undertake extensive tracking and sequencing.

Achieving high vaccination coverage and the completion of vaccination schedules is essential to curb the circulation of the virus by emerging variants with greater transmissibility.

Based on ECDC data and forecasts, the existing outbreaks caused by the Delta variant in Italy and the current vaccination coverage, we must remain alert and continue to apply and comply with the necessary measures to prevent an increase in circulation of the virus.
