After a slow worsening, this week the epidemic enters again a phase where a clear acceleration in the increase of the national incidence was observed.
A worsening in the overall risk level is confirmed for the fourth consecutive week. The number of Regions/PPAA classified as high-risk areas has increased (from one to five: Abruzzo, Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, Umbria), while the number of those classified as a moderate or low risk area has decreased.
In the light of the increased circulation of some viral variants with greater transmissibility and the clear upward trend in incidence throughout Italy, further urgent mitigation measures are needed throughout the country, as well as specific mitigation/containment measures in the areas of greatest prevalence, to avoid a fast overload of health services.
