Covid-19 weekly monitoring, report 10 - 16 May 2021

For the first week, the pressure on hospitals is decreasing and is below the critical threshold in all regions/autonomous provinces.

The estimated average transmissibility indicator, Rt, calculated on symptomatic cases is consistently below the epidemic threshold.

The incidence rate on a national scale is falling increasingly rapidly, approaching values that, through intensive and systematic tracing, would allow the pandemic to be managed by means of containment i.e. identifying cases and tracing their contacts.

The now prevalent circulation in Italy of the variant B.1.1.7 (known as the UK variant) and the presence of other variants that can partially evade immune responses, means that, in any case, the situation must continue to be monitored carefully and the epidemic must be managed with caution and in a progressive manner.
