Covid-19 weekly monitoring, report of March 29 to April 4, 2021

The number of Regions/PBAs with ICU and/or medical occupancy rates above the critical threshold remains high and, on the increase, (15 Regions/PBAs vs. 14 in the previous week).

The ICU occupancy rate (41%) and the medical occupancy rate (44%) at national level remain above the critical threshold.

In the period March 17 – 30, 2021, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.92 (range 0.82 - 1.01), down from the previous week and below 1. Eight Regions/PPAAs had a punctual Rt higher than one. Among these, two regions (Sardinia and Valle d'Aosta) have a transmissibility compatible with a type 3 scenario. Six Regions have a transmissibility compatible with a type 2 scenario.

The heavy overloading of hospital services, the still excessively high incidence, and the wide diffusion of some viral variants with greater transmissibility require the application of all useful measures to contain contagion.
