
The criticality of the widespread overload of care services is confirmed, with an occupancy rate at national level above the critical threshold in both intensive care (39%) and the medical area (41%).
The incidence is slowly decreasing and still too high to allow nationwide management based on containment, i.e., identification of cases and tracking of their contacts.
Consequently, there is a need to rapidly reduce the number of cases, including through mitigation measures aimed at reducing the possibility of interpersonal aggregation.
The now prevalent circulation in Italy of a viral variant characterised by a significantly higher transmissibility requires a particularly cautious and gradual approach to managing the epidemic.
