In Europe the Alzheimer Disease (AD) is estimated to represent the 54% of all dementias and is more likely to affect the population aged 65 years and over. The prevalence of this pathology increases with age and women are more likely to be affected than men. The European population is ageing and dementias are one of the major cause of disability among the elderly and the fourth major cause of death in people aged 65 years and over.
The Technical Conference on Dementias is an opportunity of constructive discussion on the strategies adopted in Italy and in Europe in this field, in the perspective of developing prevention and treatment initiatives, focusing on elderly health promotion.
