Covid-19 weekly monitoring, report of January 18-24, 2021

The overall situation, both in terms of incidence and impact on healthcare services, shows slight signs of improvement, despite a prolonged and extensive phase of mitigation measures throughout most of the Italian territory.

This situation occurs in a European context characterised in several countries by rapidly worsening epidemics, and it is particularly driven by the emergence of new viral variants with higher transmissibility, which have been already identified in our country.

The epidemic is therefore still in a delicate phase and a new rapid increase in the number of cases in the coming weeks is possible, if strict mitigation measures are not guaranteed at both national and regional level.

The need to maintain a drastic reduction in physical interactions between people is therefore confirmed.
