Covid-19 weekly monitoring, report 12 - 18 April 2021

The slow descent of new cases and of the number of hospitalised patients is confirmed, but the overall picture remains at a particularly challenging level.

Overall, the incidence remains high and still far from the levels (50 per 100,000) that would allow the containment of new cases. Consequently, it is necessary to continue to reduce the number of cases and make progress with the vaccination campaign.

The now prevalent circulation in Italy of a viral variant characterised by a significantly higher transmissibility requires that particular caution and moderation be maintained in managing the epidemic.

It is essential that the population continues to comply with all the recommended measures of individual protection and social distancing on all occasions of contact with people outside their household, to reduce the risk of infection.
