The ordinance of the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, states that anyone arriving in Italy after visiting Greece, Croatia, Spain, or Malta, is required to undergo a swab, in order to check for possible contagion from Covid-19.

What is envisaged by the ordinance?

The ordinance of August 12, 2020 provides for the obligation to present a molecular or antigenic test with a negative result, carried out by means of a swab, within 72 hours before entering Italy, or the obligation to undergo a swab upon arrival in Italy (through quick tests that will be experimentally adopted in major airports) or within 48 hours after returning to Italy from Croatia, Greece, Malta and Spain.

Among the measures contained in the Ordinance is the ban on entry and transit from Colombia, which has been added to the list of countries at risk.

If you are travelling to Italy and coming from Spain, Greece, Croatia and Malta, it is recommended to report at the airport boarding gate with proof of a test (molecular or antigenic) performed within 72 hours before departure, providing a negative result. In this way, you will avoid any unnecessary waiting or bureaucracy once you have arrived in Italy.

Travellers who have not carried out a test before leaving, once arrived in Italy, should call the regional numbers available on the website of the Ministry of Health, in the section Covid-19 Information Line 1500, or on the individual regional websites, in order to report his return from Spain, Greece, Croatia and Malta.

The competent Local Health Authority will then administer a diagnostic test within 48 hours, as provided for by the Ordinance of the Minister of Health of  August 12, 2020.

In the next few days, in all the main airports, ports and border lines, there will be experimental stations where travellers will be able to perform quick tests, should they fail to have a certification of a test with a negative result performed before departure.
